ON THIS PAGE IS NEWS FROM THE CURRENT BULLETIN.
and relevant stuff from prior bulletins.
We Plan on updates by Thursday each week.    Updated 4/5/07

PRIVACY NOTE:  Home Telephone Numbers are in the printed bulletin; we try to OMIT them here.  See our web Policy . For more information, please call the Church Office.

NOTE:  We had a severe computer problem at the church which prevented the bulletin from getting to the website for several weeks (months?).  That was fixed the First of April, so from that date forward we'll have the bulletins on line.

And

We still are working through a re-design of the website.  And the guy doing it is a volunteer. So it's gonna look rough for a while.

The weekly bulletin is now converted to "PDF" format and can be read here:

Other Items that are still of general interest!

THE SALEM COMMUNITY CLOTHES CLOSET offers a chance to help the needy in our area with free outfits for the whole family. St. Paul's is a member of the Salem Ecumenical Council, which staffs the closet with volunteers Mondays through Fridays each month. Currently we have four volunteers; there is an urgent need for more. You may choose to work two hours monthly from 10 a.m. to noon or from noon to 2 p.m. in the closet on Chapman Street just west of Carver Elementary School. Volunteers may assist clients at the desk or unpack, sort, and hang donated clothing. See or call Frances Stebbins, our parish representative, if you can give time.

SALEM AND ROANOKE COUNTY FOOD PANTRY

The Salem and Roanoke County Food Pantry has been having a very difficult time since the hurricanes in the Gulf Coast. Let us please remember those less fortunate in our area. Canned vegetables, canned meats, "Complete Meals", canned fruit, canned soup, instant potatoes, canned pasta, rice, salmon, tuna, jelly, and jello.

Please consider bringing a few of the items to the church and we will see that they get to the Food Pantry.

MOVING?

Are you moving? Please let the Church Office know anytime you have a change of address. We are charged for each Bulletin that is returned. Also, this will help us keep our records current.

OPPORTUNITY FOR MINISTRY

St. Paul's Support of the Volunteer Ministry at the Virginia Veterans Care Center (VVCC) began August 6, 1997. It's still happening. Thanks. We provide a weekly liturgy for the renewal of Holy Communion. This work is done on Wednesday afternoon at three o'clock in the top floor dining room. Our current need is for a few persons who are willing to commit 1 ½ hours each Wednesday to this ministry. Specifically the job would be to get to know a few residents by name and room number and inviting them to the service. This would entail searching for them and helping them get to the Service. If interested, please speak to Harmon Smith.

GRACE HOUSE RESPITE COTTAGE, a small house on the grounds of our diocesan training and education center in the Wise County coalfields, needs new furnishings. The cottage will be used for interns at the center as well as for occasional visitors and any who need brief retreats. Episcopalians in the diocese are invited to contribute money for many household needs ranging from pillows and alarm clocks to a queen-size bed. For information about specific needs call Dorothy Powell. To help the local economy, the articles will be bought near the center. Checks payable to Diocese of Southwestern Virginia and marked Grace House Cottage may be sent to P.O. Box 2279, Roanoke, 24009.

ST. PAUL'S CARES ABOUT YOU!!!!! When one of our Parishioners is sick, in the hospital or in need of some type of Pastoral Care, we want to be there for you. Please call the church office to let us know of any needs.

$$$ DID YOU KNOW that Pillis Brothers Service Station believes in charity? When you pay your bill, they will give you back 1% and you can place it in the box marked "St. Paul's Episcopal Church". Thank you to those St. Paul's members who faithfully filled this box, as it usually gives us about $100 a year. If more people participate, we could earn even more!
