| MARY ORVILLE'S COMMUNION WAFERS As many of our parish know, the communion wafers we have each Sunday are lovingly made by Mary Orville, St.Paul's former missioner. Mary's brother, The Rev. Robert M. Elder, is an Episcopal Priest in Flowers Cove, Newfoundland. Mary says he is responsible for four (4) churches in the area. Rev. Elder didn't like the store-bought styrofoam like things, so he created his own recipe, and makes them Fresh each Sunday that Holy Eucharist is celebrated. It's remarkably simple, and this recipe takes about two hours. Ingredients: 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour. 1 cup HEAVY Whipping Cream. (which is the smallest amount sold in grocery stores!). Method: Mix flour and whipping cream, beat until you get something like pizza dough (well, it is, almost!). Divide it into five parts; roll out one part onto a cookie sheet until wafer thin (about 1/8 inch) Use something cookie-cutter style to cut out quarter-size wafers, and remove (and recycle) the "waste". Place cookie sheet into a hot (Mary says 360 degree) oven for about 10 minutes until golden brown. While the first sheet is cooking, start on the second, etc. Mary wraps them in foil, 25 to a pack, so it's easier for Fr. Timothy to 'count' them at the service. Store in airtight container; they keep for a while.
